The Ishiguro Manoralong with traditional performing arts and various fun events are scheduled. Tennei-ji TempleThis temple was built by the warlord, Morinobu Ashina, in 1447. In former days, this old temple was very powerful and held sway over eight sub-temples. Its San-mon Gate was built in 1791 and is a remnant of Kakunodate Castle, which is designated as a cultural property of the city.The Street of Samurai ResidencesThe town prospered as a castle town after a big urban planning project was executed by the Ashina Clan in 1620. The wide road was accompanied by black-wooden walls and grand weeping cherry and ■r trees dotted around the town, making a pleasant leafy atmosphere while preserving the traditional samurai town from the end of the Edo period. Kaba-zaiku Art Made with Cherry Tree BarkKaba-zaiku is an art craft which uses cherry tree bark (called kaba). This Kaba-zaiku technique was transferred to Kakunodate at the end of 18th century. This craftwork was a side-job for low-ranking samurai, but later, the regional lord encouraged the manufacturing of Kaba-zaiku and it ■ourished successfully.
