Kiyomizu Magai-butsu Cli■ of Buddhist RelicsIn the Kawanabe region of Chiran Town, there are many historical sites connected to Buddhism but one of the must-not-miss spots is the display of Buddhist relics called Kiyomizu Magai-butsu. Some 200 Buddhist images are carved on the cli■ surface reaching 20 meters in height and ranging 400 meters along the Manose River. The oldest ones are said to have been created in the Heian period. No other Buddhist artifacts like these exist in Japan and they are justly considered as highly valuable historical and Buddhist relics. Chiran-cha Green TeaChiran’s largest agricultural crop is Chiran-cha green tea. Minami Kyushu City, of which Chiran Town is a part, is Japan’s largest green tea production area. The re■ned taste, color and aroma all attest to ■ne quality of Chiran-cha which can be enjoyed in many other ways, not only simply as a tea.
