Matsue is a castle town with a serene Shimane Prefectureculture. The city is surrounded by several bodies of water including Lake Shinji, the Ohashi River and the Hori-wari, a special kind of channel. Another attractive feature of Matsue is its onsen hot springs along Lake Shinji. The city was loved by the great English writer, Yakumo Koizumi (aka Lafcadio Hearn), and is home to an abundant number of myths and historical sites. It is here visitors can learn about the history and culture of Matsue through various exhibits.
