Aki City in Kochi Prefecture is a town Kochi PrefectureDoi KachuMany samurai residences which retain the atmosphere of the Edo period line the streets in the Doi Kachu area. Surrounded by walls made with bamboo and oak trees, the residences allow visitors to sense the atmosphere of those days. The area was designated as the Nation's Preservation District where visitors can find many historic and cultural properties including quite a number of samurai residences in the area known as Doi Kachu remaining from the Edo period. In spring, about 16,000 azaleas welcome visitors with outstanding scenery in Uchiharano Park. Aki City is also famous among fans of the Hanshin Tigers, one of Japanese professional baseball teams, as the team comes to the city annually for their spring training camp; the town gets quite crowded with Tigers fans from around Japan during this period. for Groups of Historic Buildings in 2012.
