Saitama PrefectureRanzan Town is located almost right in the center of Saitama Prefecture within 60 km of central Tokyo. The major part of town is located on the Hiki Hills, which creates a varied landscape with mountains, a gorge and plateau. In the early Showa period, the Japan’s forestry academic doctor, Seiroku Honda, visited the town and was deeply impressed with its beautiful landscape of Tsuki River gorge. He said, “This place resembles to Arashiyama in Kyoto.” The town later was renamed to “Ranzan”, the different pronunciation but same kanji Chinese characters of Arashiyama in Kyoto. Ranzan GorgeA beautiful scenic area produced by the surrounding gorge and range of mountains. In 1998, this scenic beauty site of gorge from which the town got its name, was certified as the “Saitama Greenery Trust” due to its rich natural environment and became public-owned land. Ranzan Festival (First Sunday of November)A variety of fun events are planned related to Ranzan’s agriculture, tourism, culture and performing arts.
