Yuzawa was developed as a castle town 48Akita PrefectureKawarage JigokuKawarage Jigoku is one of the three most spiritual mountains in Japan along with Osore-zan in Aomori and Tateyama in Toyama. It is said that a Buddhist monk, Gesso established a temple here in 807. On the top of the mountain, 800 meters from ground level, spewing steam and governed by the Satake Minami Family. The Omono River flows from north to south through the middle of the city and Mt. Chokai, sits on to its west side. Akita Prefecture is famous for beautiful women with fair skin. As it is often called as the Nada (famous sake production area in Hyogo Prefecture) in the Tohoku region, Yuzawa is also known as a production area of quality sake. Out of the town lies many noteworthy hot springs including Kawarage Jigoku and Kawarage Oyutaki (natural open-air bath). volcanic gas from every orifice, the air around Kawarage Jigoku is filled with the strong smell of sulfur. Its desolate landscape of ashy molten rock makes people imagine a scenery of “hell (Jigoku).” Kawarage Oyutaki Hot Spring WaterfallIt is a very unusual waterfall in Japan because the water is hot. Natural hot water springing upstream merges with mountain water and falls dynamically from the height of 20 meters. The waterfall basin and downstream are nice open-air hot spring spots which attract many fans. Both local people and hikers enjoy this Tanabata Edoro Festival in AugustYuzawa City
